The Rapture

Vito Roccoforte, on drums, and Luke Jenner, guitarist and singer, formed the group in early 1998. Both came from the post-punk scene and his new group walked toward the sound of bands such as PIL, Television or Chrome. Soon the group began making a name in the United States, mainly through its direct, so energetic and chaotic, with Luke Jenner, who barricaded against jumping to a rhythmic base that goes beyond any concept of forcefulness.

Its debut would come from seminal art punk label Gravity Records, an LP of eight subjects and then a single in Sony Kaye’s Gold Standard Laboratories. But the band continued without stopping for a moment: during 1999 toured with Sunny Day Real Estate, gogogo Airheart and Nuzzle. After losing their original bassist Matt Safer at a perfect substitute with which further strengthened the group’s rhythmic foundation.

The Rapture are still exploring, reaching a sound closer to dance music and pop. And they continue on the road, Delta 72, Black Dice and Love Life. In 2001 came “Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks” EP released by Sub Pop in May, which got the band finally entered the European market.

The Rapture has been typecast as head of the group of post-punk revival, although Jenner had managed to bring his influence a step further and make a name in American underground scene. His music moves between the dub-punk, gothic atmospheres, garage and electro. In fact, her new single, “The House of The Jealeus Lovers”, released in the UK by Out Put, shows very well where they are going and shootings in the city of New York punk attitude, infectious rhythms, all the remixes a Morgan Geist and production of Tim Goldsworthy of UNKLE.
