Atom Rhumba
With “Hormonal Riot” and under his arm, Atom Rhumba passed through the BAM and the International Benicàssim Festival, garnering rave reviews. Particularly in the BAM, programmers Transmusicales Rennes saw the group and decided to include them in the cartel’s most important festival in France.
“Dirt Shots”, her second album, was recorded in one day and “hair” with longtime collaborator Igor Little Fish and Jose Lastra at the controls. The album shows a raw and sweaty Atom Rhumba, a tribute album as Kim Salmon and transgressive desire.
But as much as we were all exhausted at his feet, “Chasin ‘The Onager” exceeded all expectations. Published in 2001 for his lifetime record, Munster Records, the new album by Atom Rhumba not only confirm the validity of his musical bet, but also their ability to create anthems of a cruel force that transpire in every estate garage riff and shake with every beat of funk bass drum. But the curious thing is that they do, this time surrounded by a horn section and strings and a clear approach to classic rock and a cleaner sound. And for the record, Atom Rhumba chosen to match a producer: Mick Collins, who was part of the legendary The Gories.
“Chasin ‘The Onager” is not only the best album Atom Rhumba, it is probably one of the best in the country rock of the past decade and, of course, 2001.
